Walk until the end of the path and enter the portal to defeat the wiseman’s dark side to obtain the Black Charm. Return to “Grendel the Really Old” and exchange the Black Charm for a Necklace of Strength. Return to El Nath after that and give the item to Robeira. Head on to the Holy Ground at the Snowfield (Sharp Cliff II). 1 Dark Crystal is requirred to answer 5 questions to obtain the Necklace of Wisdom. Again, head back to Robeira in El Nath and give her the Necklace of Wisdom.

How to read this skill build? 16 – 18 means Level 16, 17 and 18 [Level 16 to 18]. For 20 – 20, it means only Level 20. The guide below is purely a personal recommendation and need not be followed. Each skill listed below has advices/tips shared by senior players to guide you in building your character!

Pearl of Knowledge:
Ice/Lightning Mage have not a freezing mob skill that can freeze multiple monster at once, an advance skill of Cold Beam. However, they have a ThunderSpear skill that only hits a single target. It seems that 2nd job single-target vs mob-target is the opposite in 3rd job! Ice/Lightning mage also have Composition skill that has both Ice and Lightning element! They have Seal that can disable monster from casting any magical spell/buff against mage.

Below is the hierarchy order of Pirate advancement: [Magician Main Page]
Pirate -> Gunslinger -> Vaklyrie (Outlaw) -> Captain (Corsair)
Pirate -> Infighter (Brawler) -> Buccaneer (Marauder) -> Viper (Buccaneer)

81 – 81 : Elemental Amplification 2, Magic Booster 1

105 – 105 : Thunderspear 1 [MAX], Partial Resistance 1, Elemental Amplification 1
106 – 113 : Elemental Amplification 3
114 – 114 : Elemental Amplification 2 [MAX], Seal 1
115 – 120 : Seal 3
Summary – Total 151 SP
Ice Strike 30 [MAX] / Thunderspear 30 [MAX] / Magic Composition 30 [MAX]
Magic Booster [11/20] / Elemental Amplification 30 [MAX] / Seal [19/20] / Partial Resistance [1/20]
Reason for this Build
This build is for those who likes to use many types of offense skills at their disposal and less on the supportive skills side. Partial Resistance is not added since Ice/Lightning mage does not train on monsters that are ice/lightning base. (which can inflict ice/lightning magic attacks, e.g. Zakum)

Thunder Spear Sacrificed Build
This is build max out all supportive skills except for Thunder Spear. Choose this if you are planning to train till 4th job as it has Chain Lightning skill (much more powerful than Thunder Spear lightning element skill and its multi-target too!) Currently is the recommended choice for players

70 – 70 : Ice Strike 1
71 – 79 : Ice Strike 3
80 – 80 : Ice Strike 2 [MAX], Element Amplification 1
81 – 81 : Element Amplification 2, Magic Booster 1
82 – 87 : Magic Booster 3
88 – 88 : Magic Booster 1 [MAX], Element Amplification 2
89 – 96 : Element Amplification 3
97 – 97 : Element Amplification 1 [MAX], Magic Composition 2
98 – 106 : Magic Composition 3
107 – 107 : Magic Composition 1 [MAX], Seal 2
108 – 113 : Seal 3 [MAX]
114 – 119 : Partial Resistance 3
120 – 120 : Partial Resistance 2, Free SP 1 (Can be use in Thunder Spear / etc)
Summary – Total 151 SP
Ice Strike 30 [MAX] / Thunderspear [1/30] / Magic Composition 30 [MAX]
Magic Booster [11/20]/ Elemental Amplification 30 [MAX] / Seal 20 [MAX] / Partial Resistance 20 [MAX]
Reason for this Build
This build is basically max out all supportive skills instead of maxing all offensive skills. Thunderspear is not really effective for training except for bossing (e.g. Thunder Spear use against Papulatus Clock Boss). Since its single target, its able to deal knockback damage. However, if its SP is allocated into Partial Resistance and Seal, you could block reduce enemy damage! So its pretty much balance. Furthermore, Thunder Spear skill will be replaced by a spammable 4th job skill called Chain Lightning and the best thing is its multi-target! Chain Lightning magic cast is much faster than Thunder Spear.

partial-resistancePartial Resistance
You get additional resistance from Ice & Lightning. A few MapleStory players disagree maxing Partial Resistance since there are very little monsters that does such attacks. Perhaps in a few more MapleStory patches, there would be more monsters that uses this kind of magic attacks.

element-amplification1Element Amplification
Use more MP, but Increase Magic Attack. This skill is maxed later once your primary attacking skill (Ice Strike mob skill) is max. It works passively, meaning that, any magic skill you cast (e.g. Magic Claw / Cold Beam / etc) it uses additional MP to boost its magic attack damage! Recommended to be max.

ice-strikeIce Strike
Fires ice blocks at multiple enemies. If struck, all monsters other than ice-based ones will freeze. Cannot attack more than 6 at once. This is the primary skill for Ice/Lightning magician since it attacks multiple monster and freezing them (much better than Cold Beam). Very useful to prevent nearby monsters to attack you when their in freeze status. This helps you to save Hp Potions! Great skill for farming meso as well.

thunder-spearThunder Spear
Gathers up the power of lightening and turns it into a spear, attacking a single enemy. Monsters will be damaged with a lightening-based attack. There are many debates whether to max Thunder Spear or not to max. It depends on player’s preference. Since 4th Job has Chain Lightning skill (which can cast awfully faster than Thunder Spear) and its multi-target (hits more than 1 monster), it replaces Thunder Spear (3rd Job Skill) and Thunder Bolt (1st Job Skill). Thunder Spear needs Magic Booster to support it to speed up its magic cast, so you could keep knockback (KB) monster consistently without allowing them to recover. Great against weak-lightning monster such as Papulatus the Clock (Boss).

sealSeal
Seals up the enemies around you for a certain amount of time. Once sealed up, the monsters can’t use attacking skills, but the skill does not work on boss monsters. Great to prevent monsters to use their magical attacks against you (e.g. Mong Eerie Face / Shark Jaws / Werewolf Claw). This includes negative buff/effect (Seal, Dark, Weak, Stunned, Dispell, Slow) by Fierry, Shark, Thanatos and others. It also prevents monsters to activate their magical defenses (e.g. Dark Stone Gollem Power-Up Level 2, Physical Defense-Up Level 2.)

magic-booster1Magic Booster
Uses up a significant amount of HP and MP to increase the attacking speed for spells. Most MapleStory players would ask ” Why leave Spell Booster at Lv11 instead of Lv20?” Reason being, Lv11 has the same casting speed as Lv20 Speed +2, however Lv20 has longer duration.

magic-compositionMagic Composition
Uses ice & lightening-based spell on a single enemy. Applies massive damage to monsters that are weak against ice or lightening, and the enemy will be frozen for a certain time. This skill is similar to Thunder Spear (single target) but able to freeze monster at the same time. This gives you offense and defense at the same time! Let’s assume that your hit was not able to knockback the monster, however the freeze status kicks in and save you from receiving a counter attack from monster magical/physical attack!

I’m not sure when you updated this, but I heard from many players in MapleStory that Thunder Spear is a useless skill and when you reach lvl 120, it should only have 1 skill point on it. Is that correct?
