MapleStory Thief Skills + Skill Build

Title: MapleStory 1st Job Thief – Thief Skills, Thief Skill Build (Skill Allocation) with Explanation!

Requirement: Level 10, with 25 DEX
Proceed to the Thieves’ Hideaway at a basement of a cafe in Kerning City. In there, you’ll find the Dark Lord. Talk to him, and you’ll be advance as Thief if you’ve the requirement stats.

How to read this skill build? 16 – 18 means Level 16, 17 and 18 [Level 16 to 18]. For 20 – 20, it means only Level 20. The guide below is purely a personal recommendation and need not be followed. Each skill listed below has advices/tips shared by senior players to guide you in building your character!

Pearl of Knowledge:
Thief specializes in attacking monsters very quickly and they move very fast. They have high avoidability since their primary attribute is LUK. LUK and DEX increases their accuracy. LUK boost their min and max damage! At higher levels, you will often see that lower level monsters will be unable to hit you when you bump against them.

Below is the hierarchy order of Pirate advancement: [Thief Main Page]
Pirate -> Gunslinger -> Vaklyrie (Outlaw) -> Captain (Corsair)
Pirate -> Infighter (Brawler) -> Buccaneer (Marauder) -> Viper (Buccaneer)

Assassin / Bandit-Sin (Recommended!)
Bandit-Sin means they use assassin build to gain attacking range to level up more quickly, and when they reach 2nd job, they choose Bandit job in Thief. 1st job assassins use claw to throw throwing-star that can be purchased and recharge in potion shop.
10 – 10 : Lucky Seven 1
11 – 11 : Nimble Body 3
12 – 13 : Keen Eyes 3
14 – 14 : Keey Eyes 2 [MAX], Lucky Seven 1
15 – 16 : Lucky Seven 3
17 – 17 : Lucky Seven 2, Save SP 1
18 – 19 : Save SP 3
20 – 20 : Lucky Seven 10 [MAX]
21 – 25 : Nimble Body 3
26 – 26 : Nimble Body 2 [MAX], Disorder 1
27 – 27 : Disorder 2, Dark Sight 1
28 – 30 : Dark Sight 3
Summary – Total 61 SP
Lucky Seven 20 [MAX] / Nimble Body 20 [MAX] / Keen Eyes 8 [MAX]
Disorder [3/20] / Dark Sight [4/20] / Double Stab [0/20]
Reason for this Build
The core skills for a future assassin is basically Lucky 7, Nimble Body and Keen Eyes. Add 1 SP (Skill Point) into Lucky 7 so you can spend your MP. Lucky 7 uses Claw to throw star. Keen Eyes is maxed first because you will need the extra range to hit monsters from far. Once it is maxed, you can hit monsters to the corner of your screen! With this skill max, you don’t waste throwing-stars that won’t hit monsters that are far away from you. Then max out Lucky 7 as your core attacking skill so you can train on powerful mobs with better EXP (Experience). Next add SP into Nimble Body to provide you with additional avoidability and accuracy. The avoidability makes Thief special, as they can avoid monster when bumping against them, in the long run, you save tons of HP Potions!

Bandit (Recommended!)
This is the common build for bandit that use dagger to train in 1st job. Dark Sight is useful for 4th job skill (Assassination). How assassination works? The longer you are in dark sight, the charge more damage.
10 – 10 : Double Stab 1
11 – 16 : Double Stab 3 [MAX]
17 – 17 : Double Stab 1, Nimble Body 2
18 – 23 : Nimble Body 3 [MAX]
24 – 24 : Disorder 3
25 – 30 : Dark Sight 3
Summary – Total 61 SP
Lucky Seven [0/20] / Nimble Body 20 [MAX] / Keen Eyes [0/8]
Disorder [3/20] / Dark Sight [18/20] / Double Stab 20 [MAX]
Reason for this Build
Thief who wants to use dagger to attack should add Double Stab as their core attacking skill. Once that is max, add Nimble Body to boost your accuracy and avoidability. Add 3 SP (Skill Points) into Disorder to activate Dark Sight. Disorder is not useful at higher levels, so it is recommended not to add more than 3 SP into Disorder. The remaining SP is added into Dark Sight since Bandit at 4th Job requires a Dark Sight to increase its damage! The 4th Job Skill is called Assassinate whereby the longer you are in Dark Sight, the chances of Critical and Damage increases! For more information, visit the 4th Job Thief Shadower Page in this blog.

nimble-bodyNimble Body (more info)
Increases accuracy and avoidability. This makes Thief Class experts in dodging enemy attacks. The higher avoidability a Thief have, the better chance to avoid physical and magical attack. Thus, you save on your Hp Potion from being used to recover lost Hp. It gives additional accuracy that is useful while training on high avoidability monsters. Accuracy does not effect the player’s damage but makes it more effective hit a monster without miss. Recommended to be max!

Can’t perform the attack on an enemy that’s already in “disorder”, however. Not useful against high level monster that has a few hundred of weapon defense and magic defense. Not recommended to be max but pump at least 3 SP (skill points) of Disorder to activate Dark Sight.

dark-sightDark Sight (more info)
Use MP to hide behind the shadows. While hiding, the enemy won’t attack, but you can’t attack back either. All movements other than attacking are available. It’s temporary, so after a while, you’ll be back to normal. To deactivate this skill, simply press the attack button (the normal weapon attack without skill) OR use your mouse cursor and right-click on the Dark Sight icon located at the top right of your MapleStory in-game screen.
_
Useful for Shadower Assassinate (4th job skill). The longer you are in dark sight, the more damage is being charge for assassinate skill. Dark Sight is also used in Ludibrum Party Quest to avoid touching Dark Block Golem that deals 8000 damage. Dark Sight will cancel out Haste (2nd Job Skill) unless Dark Sight is at max level. However, if you are in Dark Sight, and another thief haste you, it would not cancel that effect. While in Dark Sight, you could only avoid Physical bump but not physical attack (earthquake/pound) and magical attack. Apart from that, it is commonly used with Meso Explosion (aka Meso Bomb) at Zakum (Boss). Chief Bandit (3rd Job Players) will activate Dark Sight, and stand nearby the monster and drop bag of meso, and later explode them.

Use MP to quickly stab an enemy twice at once using a dagger. Only Bandit max this! Bandit-Sin (hybrid build of assassin in 1st job, and being bandit in 2nd job) does not max this! Uses dagger instead of throwing stars and claw. Its much cheaper than Lucky Seven equipments.

lucky-sevenLucky Seven / Lucky 7 / Lucky7 (more info)
Use MP to throw 2 throwing stars and apply damage based on LUK, regardless of the rate of javelin mastery. This is the only skill in MapleStory that does not require weapon mastery. Lucky Seven depends on weapon attack and LUK. The more WA and LUK (luck) you have, you deal more damage! (Formula for Lucky 7 Damage)
Requires a claw and throwing-star. The claw (similar to a glove) allows Thief to hold/handle sharp throwing-stars. Both does not come cheap. Unlike bowman arrows, throwing-star is not drop frequently by monster, its like rare item. Throwing-star can’t be scrolled and it has its own weapon attack. There are different types of throwing-star dropped by different monster. The difference between these throwing-stars are in weapon attack and recharge cost. Some has more capacity and some cost higher when its being recharged only in potion shop. (not weapon store)

Rethivey :I just started a new thief character, and decided to be a bandit. I forgot about looking up a guide so I started distributing the skills on my own, and, well, Keen Eyes for me is on five because it said “throwing stars AND knives” so I thought that since bandits are dagger users.. but, is there a way for me to make this up? I’m level 14 on that character.

you can buy asp reset scroll in cash shop

May I also suggest a small fix in the GOTS
    section for Thieves?
It opens up the section for 4th Job Book Quests.

This website is AWESOME! I love this hidden-sanctuary.
Only, I found a small problem in the Skill Build for
    bandits.
    From levels 10 – 10 Its Double Stab: 1.
    From level 11 – 16 Its Double Stab: 3.
After that it says that double stab is now maxed.
    Its only at 19.
